Alyssa Hanshaw, LPC, LCDC


Alyssa is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) with over 4 years of clinical experience and 10 years of experience in the recovery community supporting individuals navigating addiction and healing. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in General Rehabilitation with a concentration in Addiction Studies and holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Over the years, Alyssa has had the privilege of serving the community in a variety of settings, which has deepened her belief in meeting people exactly where they are in their journey without judgment and with genuine understanding.

Alyssa believes therapy is a deeply personal experience that should feel safe, collaborative, and tailored to each individual. She offers a supportive environment where clients can slow down, make sense of their experiences, and reconnect with themselves as they move toward healing and growth. Her work is grounded in approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, mindfulness, and expressive arts, all used flexibly to support each person’s unique needs and goals.

Alyssa Tapia, LPC-Associate

Alyssa Tapia is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate based in Harlingen. She earned her Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with a minor in Criminology, from Texas A&M University–Kingsville.

Alyssa has experience working in both school-based and clinical settings with children, adolescents, and adults. She takes a warm, collaborative, and person-centered approach to counseling, believing clients are the experts of their own experiences. In therapy, Alyssa supports clients in exploring what brought them to counseling while identifying meaningful, individualized goals for growth.

She integrates psychoeducation to build insight, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to challenge unhelpful thought patterns, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to strengthen emotion regulation and coping, expressive arts techniques for self-expression, and strength-based approaches to highlight resilience. Alyssa works with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and life transitions, helping clients build coping skills, deepen self-understanding, and move toward lasting change.

Outside of work, Alyssa enjoys traveling, trying new recipes, and spending time with her pets.
